Thursday 5 December - Westhill
West Hill
26 early risers were greeted by a frosty landscape at Westhill Golf Club. However after a hearty breakfast the golf was underway and before long a watery sun began to thaw out the course.

Obviously scoring was at a premium but it gives me great pleasure in reporting that the winner of the coveted David Squire Cup was our Captain, Jon Paddon, with 32 points. Runner-up was a new member, son of our President, Richard Harris on 31 points.

Somewhat embarrassingly I have to report that “Team Foster” comprising John, Tim (youngest son) plus late substitute Doug Wilson won the team event with 75 pointts, Tim having just won the guest prize with 31 points!

The Club maintained its usual tradition by giving us an excellent traditional Christmas lunch which was followed by the raffle and auction sweep. I am delighted to report that the total raised from these events raised some £2800 which enabled the Society to support the Captains charity, The Hospice of St Francis Berkhamsted, to the tune of £1400. The balance will be added to our Centenary Fund.

Thanks to all who helped to make the day such a success, Kim Harris for his efforts with the Auction, Brian Mitchinson/Chris Bell for the raffle and Carol & John Dixson-Smith for attending to do the scoring and coming for the lunch only. Tim Page must not be forgotten for his excellent prize table. Thankyou also to Captain Jon for all his efforts and all members who were able to twist golf Secretaries arms in providing Club vouchers which totalled 11 in all. Also all those members and guests who bid and provided such a magnificent sum of money this year.

Next year has not yet been booked albeit West hill have given as alternative dates.
